The buying process is amazingly
straightforward in Turkey, certainly compared with the UK. Once
you have found the property that jumped out and shouted "BUY
ME" we obtain a copy of the deeds, agree a final price
and deposit with the vendor and we all head off to the Government
Offices ('Notary' Office) where we confirm the transaction is
agreed, and set the legal process into motion.
At this time you pay some legal fees and by law a translator
is instructed to run through everything you are signing in
English. You can choose to return to finalise the paperwork
in a couple of months' time, or you can sign 'Power of Attorney'
over to us (or whoever your agent is) and from that moment
we effectively become you for the purposes of your purchase.
An agreement on the size and payment dates for the deposit,
stage payments (if applicable) and balance are agreed with
the vendor/developer.
You can at this stage also choose a solicitor to act as your
Power of Attorney instead of your agent. It is fair to say
that most transactions don't have a solicitor involved, it
is not required, but we appreciate that some clients prefer
the peace of mind that one might bring.
The paperwork heads off to Izmir, where various checks are
made and on approval the deeds are issued to us (or the solicitor)
with your smiling photograph and details upon them. Once the
agreed balance payment(s) have been made, the Title Deeds
are collected. You own the property!
You take the deed home, frame it and place it somewhere in
your home that all your visitors can definitely see it.
